Dongru began learning the piano at the age of 9, and from the ages of 10-18, she was enrolled at the primary and middle school attached to the Shenyang Conservatory of Music. In this period, Dongru won many competitions, including the Liszt international Youth piano competition, the Singapore International piano competition (in China) and Steinway youth piano competition (in China ). From 2020, she studied piano at the Shenyang Conservatory of Music, gaining the highest entrance examination mark – whilst there, she studied with Momo Chen, a graduate of the Musik Hochschule in Cologne and Detmold.
Due to the coronavirus pandemic, Dongru suspended her study at the Shenyang conservatoire and decided to change location. She went to Russia and studied piano performance and drama, and was attracted by the European atmosphere, and enjoyed meeting with the music professors from the St. Petersburg Conservatory of Music and the Tchaikovsky Conservatory of Music. After this, Dongru hoped to go to United Kingdom to study piano further. Now a student at the RNCM, she is embracing the challenging atmosphere and exploring her independence within music. She enjoys performing the music of Chopin, as it stimulates melancholy and deeper thinking.
